Profile

A young man who loves hip-hop above all else. He has a scary look in his eyes and isn't friendly, so people find him hard to talk to, but he's actually just awkward. He was born a quarter-Russian to a pianist father and an opera singer mother. He is also from a well-known musical family, but he left home after his parents disapproved of his passion for hip-hop.

Appearance

Allen is a Eurasian male with a slender physique and dark red hair and piercing red eyes. He wears a black t-shirt with a red hoodie on top of it. Allen also wears a matching set of light blue denim jacket and pants embellished with flame patches, orange-embroidered on red felt. He also wears red denim sneakers, black fingerless gloves with pyramid studs, and a red ring on his right thumb. Allen has a flame tattoo on the right side of his neck and wears two chain necklaces; one plain and one with a phoenix and cross on it. He also wears an ear cuff on the left side of his ear.

In his Exhibition Show outfit, Allen wears a white utility jacket with light blue trim and red buttons and pockets. There are orange straps hanging from the shoulders and straps from the middle of the jacket that repeat the team name "BAE" on them. The collar has a cord lock and an orange belt. The sleeves have an orange stripe down the side and red cuffs with a black stripe. Beneath the jacket, Allen wears a black, oversized scoop neck t-shirt with a small, light blue tag with a black fiery logo at the hem. He also wears loose-fit red shorts with pockets and a black trim, and black leggings with a red fiery pattern beneath them. His sneakers are light blue with a black tongue and red laces and soles.

Personality

Due to being awkward and often looking unfriendly, Allen is bad in social situations and can struggles to communicate his words properly. In truth, Allen is a very earnest, honest and frank person, though this causes him to rather blunt and tactless at times. He tends to be headstrong, emotional, and rather tends to do things his own way, he still cares a lot about his friends and listen to them when it counts. He has deep bond with Hajun and Anne, and treasures them greatly, getting upset on their behalf, defends them, and leads them with grace.

As a "hip-hop maniac", Allen is extremely passionate and knowledgeable about the culture and its musical history. Whenever hiptop topics comes up, Allen becomes so talkative to the point other people get uncomfortable and overwhelmed by his enthusiasm. Allen tends to pull long all-nighters whenever he create new tracks for BAE, which often makes him neglect his health and his schoolwork. Allen enjoys writing lyrics by hand and is not above writing on any accessible surface, such the wall or tablecloths, if he does not have paper should the urge strikes him. Due to his parents rejecting his own passion, Allen gets angry at others for insulting his commitment and love towards hiphop and is determined to prove himself with his music. While confident in his own style, Allen greatly respects all types of music and sounds, never insulting his rivals' sound and praise their own devotion to their ideals. Allen believes in the music he makes and defends that the essence of hiphop is be to accepting of all and challenge conventions.

Despite his awkwardness, Allen is friendly and enjoys being around fellow hiphop lovers, eager to be close with his rivals, being on good terms with many of them, and likes to do collaborations. Allen's passion, kindness, and strong individuality makes him rather charismatic, attracting both Hajun and Anne into hiphop because how clearly and proudly Allen is able to express himself through his music. Even the prickly Kanata Yatonokami respects him once he saw how seriously Allen takes hiphop, though Allen being overly friendly tends to annoyed the younger man. Allen is a gracious loser and supportive of others outside BAE, showing concern for Kanata after he learned that Nayuta Yatonokami's supposed death and throws a party for the twins for winning the Paradox Live. When speaking about Dongha Yeon, Allen expressed sympathy and understanding towards the young boy, sensing his interest is genuine from listening to his music.

This is a "fragment of memory" deep within their hearts

I locked the violin case.

- The warm smiles on my parents' face, were only ever meant for me because I played classical music.

Then I came to realize that the love they had been giving to me, was never meant for me. It has always been for the idealized image of a「Perfect performer」they've always built in their mind.

They were supposed to be the two people that I wanted most to understand me, yet in the end, the true sound of my heart has never reached the two of them.

It made me want to turn my eyes away from the sheet music my father gave me...

...and before I knew it, these fingers that my mother used to praise, has refused to touch the strings.

• Anne Faulkner: Like Hajun, Allen has been friends with Anne since high school. Even though the two bicker over trivial matters, they still care a lot about each other.
• Naoakira Saimon: His sensei (teacher) at the school he and the other members of BAE attend.
• Kanata Yatonokami: Allen and Kanata initially did not get along during the events of the DESIRE stage battle, where Kanata stole Allen's phantometal to teach him a lesson. However, when Allen explained to Kanata that he and his friends have troubles in their past, Kanata reluctantly gives Allen's phantometal back to him. Now, Kanata no longer mocks BAE, but is still irritated by Allen's hip-hop antics as well he's interested in cozmez' music

Etymology

• The name Allen is of Gaelic, Irish, and Scottish origins and has various meanings, such as "little rock", "handsome", "harmony", and "noble".
• Allen's surname Sugasano means "Vermilion Bird" (朱雀) (sugasa) and "field, wilderness" (野) (no). The Vermilion Bird is one of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations that is said to rule over the southern heavens and represents the fire, the direction south, and summer.
• Allen's MC Name, SUZAKU, is also derived from the Japanese name for the Vermillion Bird. In some of BAE's songs, Allen refers himself as "SUZAKU the Phoenix". While sharing some similarities, the Vermillion Bird and Phoenix are two different beings. The Phoenix is a mythical sacred firebird that originated in many different cultures' mythologies, such as Greek, Chinese, and others. In Chinese mythology, fenghuang is known as the Chinese phoenix, and though both are different creatures, is sometimes equated with the Vermillion Bird.

Trivia

• As a child, Allen won numerous violin contests, including being the youngest champion under the violin category of the Queen Elizabeth’s International Music Competition, and was hailed as a prodigy.
• Allen's Twitter account is following the official Paradox Live Twitter as well as the other characters' Twitter accounts, except for Kanata, who blocked him after Allen quote retweeted one of Kanata's tweets.
• As revealed in Paradox Live Fanbook short manga, Allen is not good with horror-related genre, as he is easily scared and ends up crying a lot.
